Bournemouth Bound (Beachside)

The concept of enjoying your time anywhere ultimately depends on the company, in my opinion. Even if my barkada‘s initial plan of spending three days in Bournemouth via hotel turned to sixteen hours and a subsequent sleepover back in London, if that means just being with some of the brightest souls in the world, then it’ll be the best sixteen hours.

After decluttering the mess that is our schedules and timetables and holiday dates put together, we decided to meet up at 6:00am, but after being honest with one another, we ended up getting together at around 8:45am instead. Thank you to our drivers Ate Precious and Barry for being so game, to Juds and Tita for the biko and the Abarides siblings for the ham, even the burnt ones! Hi to July who we didn’t know was also in town that day! Happy studying to you!

Three hours, an unnoticed nap and a FaceTime conversation later, we are greeted by this.

I don’t remember seeing this when I first came to Bournemouth last year, though. Questions, questions.

Roll Call:

Barry – Umbrella Extraordinaire

Ate Precious – Sand Castle Wonder Woman

Judylyn – Madam of the Seven Seas

Jelyn – Landlord ng Bournemouth

Josh – Classic Patintero Man

Troy – Beach Vibes New Age Nerd

Also featuring Kyle who was too busy playing in the water and Benson (welcome back to the UK!) who didn’t want a portrait taken because the sun lightened his skin which he didn’t like.

For a September day, the beach was awfully hot and was filled with people who I think forgot about the change of months. Maybe it was just Filipinos who think cold weather and Christmas when “ber months” come. We didn’t even bring any shorts or towels because we thought it was going to rain!

Also got to bring some crystals for the sun and sea to cleanse.

It was so fun absorbing the Bournemouth vibes again. I spent the entire day there barefoot, covered in either sand or water. If I had some beer and it were just a bit hotter, I would have flown right up to the sun. My feet actually felt weird wearing shoes again that night.

After Jelyn the Queen’s eventual arrival after making singil the Queen and Obama her tenants (hahahahaha), the kids decided to play ball and classic rounds of patintero, even with the traditional water lines and techniques that were technically classified as cheating!!!

Even got to take some cool artsy professional camera shots! Be sure to check out my Ate’s Weebly account featuring her photography! If you want cool shots to make you look ten times more haba hair as Judylyn would say it or if you want to have #PogiProblems as Josh would describe it, contact her now!

Group pic by Jelyn!

And as it usually is with great friendships, the best moments usually happen in the least expected times. My favourite moments were during the ride home, from the “dinner” a la Burger King somewhere and the Pinoy Henyo games (shi chu; Charles Dickens; a special name hahahaha), albeit my end of jeans that were still cold and wet from the sea water.

Thank you for the last sixteen hours of summer, guys! Onto the next road trip.
